Many of us think of good oral hygiene as brushing and flossing our teeth regularly. While that may be the case for the most part, if you are not visiting your hygienist for a regular dental cleaning, you are missing a vital component to good oral health. It is recommended to receive a dental cleaning every 6 months but visits to the hygienist could be more frequent depending on the individual’s oral health.
What Happens During a Dental Cleaning?
At your dental cleaning appointment, an oral exam will be done to check the health of your teeth and oral tissue. Your hygienist will clean your teeth and periodontal screening will be completed. Also, radiographic images may be taken if prescribed by the dentist.
